Owner and designer of Aum Goddess, a company devoted to manufacturing and distributing organic sustainable clothing for women, men, children, yoga, festival wear, spa and wedding attire.
Groovinda started her career studying modern dance & ballet. She loved creating clothes for her dance pieces … finding second hand clothing and restitching them with other pieces of fabric or cloths to create that purr fect dance piece. In 1988 she had the opportunity to go to London, England and was so inspired by the fashion scene that when she returned to Toronto she soon opened a retail outlet called Siren, an alternative fashion shop for men and woman on the trendy “Queen Street “ in Toronto.
She hung up her ballet shoes and immersed herself into her LOVE of fashion.
Groovinda had 18 success full years on Queen Street where she traveled to London, New York and L.A. and bought the most current trendy fashions.
She immersed herself in the sub culture of fashion, art, music and dance…”fantastic times! “
It was through her experience at Siren that she learned the retail and manufacturing side to operating a business.
In 2005 had an opportunity to sell her shop and move out of the hectic city life into a remote place in Northern Ontario far away from all that was familiar to her. She was ready for a change and a new challenge.
A few years later a friend encourage her to take her patterns out of her closet and start creating clothing out of natural fibres. This felt like a divine message was delivered to her and she was ready to embark on her new eco path, bringing awareness to choosing a more healthy alternative to the body and soul. Her LOVE of fashion and clothing could now be expressed in a sustainable environment.
Thus Aum Goddess was created.
With the help of the Northern Ontario Government and her friends at the Business Centre she received a grant to bring forth her new business to the next level. All production remains in Canada and she employs the talented artisan woman in her community to do all the sewing and manufacturing. This feels great to her that she can remain a hands on operation and a stamped Made in Canada label.
